Greece’s Thermal Springs Tourist Draw

Trying to broaden the base of visitors coming to the country, Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalyianni is emphasizing the attraction of thermal springs in a number of regions through the recently re-activated Committee for the Protection of Therapeutic Natural Resources, which had been dormant for years.

The Commission has already recognized five mineral springs: Loutraki Pozar (Aridaia), Souroti (Thessaloniki), Canistra (Kassandra, Chalkidiki), Kallithea (Rhodes), Loutraki-Perachora(Corinth). The ministry aims at creating a constant flow of the recognition of natural resources based on the enhancement of thermal resources as an added value to the overall development of the national tourism product.
The Minister’s decision is part of the strategic plan for tourism, targeting the focused development of spa tourism and thermalism as well as the tourism development, with possible significant benefits for Greece. A draft law has been drawn up after consultation, pointing to the thermal springs as a draw for visitors.
